Ica is famous for the desert oasis Huacachina that lies 20 minutes from the city. This little town is central to great adventure activities. From delicious Pisco tasting vineyards, sandboarding and dune buggy racing on giant sand dunes, to the famous UNESCO world heritage site of Nazca. About 300km south of the Capital city Lima you will find the town of Ica. Get smily on a pisco tasting tour, a local brandy made from fermenting grapes and responsible for making the popular cocktail, Pisco sour.
Also visit an archeological museum with over 26,000 archeological artifacts. Just a quick hop, skip, and jump away is Huacachina. A small desert oasis town perfect for an adventure filled day. Sandboard down 1,600 ft sanddunes and enjoy a thrilling sand buggy ride through dunes at crazy high elevations. To end an action packed trip, take a flight on a light aircaft over the Nazca lines in the desert. The animal and plant figurines below have fascinated archeologists for years with their mathematical precision; and to this day they remain the biggest mystery in Peru.
Huacachina is very small town built around a small serene desert lake. It has a permanent population of only 100 people. The name is in Quechua meaning “hidden lagoon”. Here you can ride up the incredible sand dunes in dune buggies, and experience the best sandboarding riding dunes as high as 500m/1600 ft. Recommended time to do the tour is in the afternoon, (we recommend 4 PM) when the desert heat cools and you can enjoy amazing sunset views from the top of the dunes while endulging on some locally brewed Pisco.
Ica is the center of the Peruvian Pisco industry. It’s also the largest producer of wine in the entire country. The town is saturated with vineyards and wineries. Because of this, you can visit multiple bodegas in one day, no need to trek long distances whilst tipsy. Important thing to mentally note is that Peruvian wine is very sweet becuase of its climate. You can take a tour and learn about the distillery process of Pisco and wine, and even try some free samples at the end. Tours will be done by a local tour guide in either English or Spanish.
This museum was founded in 1946 and focuses on the Pre-hispanic cultures of Peru. It contains over 26,000 archeological pieces belonging to different indigenous cultures. The museum carries many artifacts from the indigenous cultures of Peru, including some Inca utensils, Paracas textiles, Nazca ceramics, miniature models of the Nazca lines and many more items from the Chincha and Wari civilizations. The museum has a immense collection of archeorlogical pieces like ancient bones, and Huaco (ancient Peruvian Pottery). With SamCorporations we bring our own bilingual guide, because the museum only conducts tours in Spanish.
