Welcome you at the airport or bus terminal and transfer you to “Wasai Hotel” at the banks of the Madre de Dios River. Upon arrival a refreshing welcome drink awaits you. Check into your comfortable private room with hot showers and Wi-Fi. Before eating a gourmet lunch, enjoy some time perusing the grounds and getting familiar with your surroundings. After lunch we take a private car to the Cachuela Center 30 minutes from Puerto Maldonado. On arrival we embark on a brief ethnobotanical walk through the jungle. An ethnobotanical walk is an excursion that focuses on the connection between plants and people. Explore the native plants of the Amazonia and learn how the native tribes have been using these plants for centuries for food, medicine, utensils, tools, clothing and ceremonial items.
Continue until we reach the canopy walkway. This bridge hangs at 15 meters above the ground, allowing for stunning views of the biodiversity in the jungle. Walk among huge trees and medicinal plants typical in the Peruvian rainforest. The guides will give a detailed explanation of the tropical ecology and will answer any questions you might have. The bridge ends at an observation tower that´s 40m above the ground and offers amazing views of the rainforest. As the sun begins to set, we gather some cocoa beans from a nearby plantation to prepare our very own organic chocolate. We settle at a great spot to enjoy amazing sunset views over the Madre de Dios River while consuming chocolate made with our very own hands. We head back for a scrumptious dinner before settling into our serene rooms, with calming sounds of the Jungle in our Ecolodge.
Early in the morning we visit the Parrot clay lick located 30 minutes from Puerto Maldonado in Madre de Dios River. This river bank attracts various species of macaw, parrots and parakeets that lick clay to help neutralize toxins they consume in their daily diets of raw fruits and flowers. Later, we travel back to Puerto Maldonado for yet another scrumptious gourmet lunch. After lunch, we start our 2-hour jungle walk through the Amazon Forest. Witness 500-year-old trees like the great Kapok tree and a variety of other flora and fauna. At the end of the trail, take a small canoe boat to feast our eyes on giant otters, the black caiman and many different species of birds and monkeys.
The sunset in the lake is amazing and as night falls the rainforest awakens with the sounds of nature. This marks the time to begin our return walk to the Madre de Dios River and head back to our comfortable rooms in Puerto Maldonado. During the night, while cruising back to the hotel we will search for black caimans (crocodiles) in the Madre de Dios River. The lack of light gives us a good chance to have a stunning view of the southern constellations and the milky way. After dinner you have free time to try out the nightlife, pool or rest.
We wake up to a delicious breakfast in the jungle. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure. Later, at your convenience we transfer you to the airport or bus terminal to mark an end to un amazing adventure.
